About Us

Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy OBE Z”L, emeritus spiritual head of the S&P Sephardi Community in the UK, always ensured that every mitzvah was performed in the most beautiful way, embodying the concept of Hiddur Mitzvah—beautifying a mitzvah. He made Kiddush on Shabbat with an antique silver Kiddush cup, wrapped his Lulav in red ribbons on Succot (following an old Spanish and Portuguese custom for rabbis), and read the Megillah on Purim from an intricate silver bamboo-style scroll. He taught:

“When we put effort into beautifying a mitzvah, it shows love and respect for Hashem—just as we would honour a guest or a king with the finest presentation.”

For Rabbi Levy, why and how we perform mitzvot mattered deeply. Mitzvot should not be done out of routine or obligation but with passion and a deep desire to connect to Hashem. At his school, Naima JPS, he wanted the boys to wear Tzitzit out of love, so he never made it compulsory. Instead, during his weekly visits, he would show them his Tzitzit and say:

“This is what we are meant to wear, and if you’d like one, I will give you one.”

Without fail, hands would shoot up, eager to receive them.

At Soto Tzitzit, in Rabbi Levy’s memory, we have embraced the mitzvah of Tzitzit in the most beautiful way—encouraging more Jews to wear them not out of obligation, but out of passion and love. With Soto Tzitzit’s comfortable and stylish design, we hope to inspire those who already wear Tzitzit to do so with greater beauty and encourage those who don’t yet wear them to start.

May all the mitzvot that come from this project be an Ilui Nishmat for Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy OBE Z”L.
